National Association of Nigerian Students
(NANS) yesterday appealed to the members of the
House of Representatives to reduce the tension
over the alleged padding scandal between House
Speaker Yakubu Dogara and the former
appropriation committee chairman, Abdulmumin
Jibrin.
The students also asked members to lend their
support to the speaker in his bid to ensure
transparency and accountability in law making
process.
Dogara and Jibrin have accused each other of
attempting to inject projects worth billions of naira
into the 2016 budget.
Chairman, All Coordinators Forum of the students
body, Habib Salau Enesi, made the appeal at a
media conference in Abuja.
He said the lawmakers should work together
toward guaranteeing stability rather than
squabbling.
“We call on honourable members of the House of
Representatives to eschew all forms of fictitious
and contrived allegations being spurned against
the speaker. They should rather give him and the
entire House leadership undivided support for the
advancement of democracy and national
development,” he said.
