he Olympics began in full with the
first gold medal going to an
American teenager by the fearsome
name of Thrasher.
Virginia Thrasher, a 19-year-old who
once had her heart set on figure
skating, captured the 10-metre air rifle
Saturday.
Thrasher topped her spectacular spring
where she won three NCAA titles and a
spot on the US Olympic team by
upsetting China's Li Du, a two-time
gold medalist - winning gold by just
one point.
Meanwhile, Greg Van Avermaet of
Belgium won the gruelling road race
that left cyclists with a myriad of
injuries.
There was plenty of rough riding on a
punishing cycling course which saw
Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas miss
their podium places.
Riders rolled off to the sound of
crashing waves on Copacabana Beach
on a steamy morning hours after
Brazil's high-energy opening ceremony
featuring thumping funk, sultry samba
and supermodel Gisele Bundchen
sauntering to the tune of "The Girl from
Ipanema."
The brutality of the course became
evident over the cobblestone sectors
that rattled one cyclist off his bike, cost
another his chain and forced Tour de
France champion Chris Froome to
replace his broken bike.
Van Avermaet out-sprinted Jakob
Fuglsang and Rafal Majka on the long
run to the finish at sun-splashed
Copacabana Beach after Italy's
Vincenzo Nibali and Colombia's Sergio
Henao crashed while trying to navigate
a corner on the final harrowing descent
of the 6-hour race.
In the swimming pool, Britain's Adam
Peaty was the early star. He set an eye-
popping new world record of 57.55sec
in the men's 100m breaststroke heats –
his first ever Olympic swim.
Meanwhile, fellow teammate Max
Litchfield secured fourth place in
the men's Olympic 400 metres
individual medley.
Yusra Mardini, the Syrian refugee who
was swimming for her life to a Greek
island less than a year ago, won her
100m butterfly heat but failed to reach
the semi-finals.
"Everything was amazing. It was the
only thing I ever wanted was to
compete in the Olympics," said the 18-
year-old, who is representing the
Games' first ever refugee team.
As day one came to a close, it was
Australia who topped the medals table
with two golds and one bronze.
1) RECREATING YOUR WORLD - Oyakhilome lays the foundation to explain why we can change our lives or recreate our worlds. He quotes the scripture Acts1v8 'But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you...' As a christian i.e. when you are 'born again' one of the experiences is to receive the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. Oyakhilome states that when the Holy Spirit comes upon/in you, He gives you power. This power is an ability to cause changes. Equipped with this power we have the ability to recreate our world. 2) YOUR CREATIVE ABILITY - Oyakhilome states that the creative ability in us is our imagination. He gives scriptural evidence to show that our imaginative thoughts can manifest in the natural realm. He emphasises the importance of imagining positive desires and brooding over them until they become clear. Our imaginative power signifies what we can see. In the process of recreating our world we must have a definite vision of what we desire our...
