Democracy Day is a public holiday in Nigeria, annually observed every
May 29th in commemoration of the restoration of democracy to our
Federal Republic in the year 1999. It is a memorable day that is
predestined for the betterment of our nation.
There is no doubt that eighteen years of uninterrupted elected civilian rule is a commendable feat for the country, which has engendered freedom of choice of political leaders, better system of accountability, responsibility of actions, freedom of expression, amongst others.
Our nation Nigeria is indeed a great nation filled with highly intellectual, good spirited, resilient, hospitable, hard working and wonderful people from different ethnic groups who are endowed with diverse talents and potentials.
Today, we join other states in this nation to celebrate the second year of this democratic dispensation, specifically the administration of my dear husband, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike and his laudable achievements so far, ranging from construction of good road networks, numerous building projects, timely payments of workers salary, to many others too many to mention.
Let us therefore continue to work towards the progressive transformation and the growth and prosperity of our dear Rivers State and the entire nation at large, while de-emphasizing those instigations and actions that tend to promote mutual mistrust, hatred, disloyalty and discrimination among us.
I wish us all a happy Democracy Day celebrations!
God bless and keep you and your families.
From Her Excellency,
Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike,
The Wife of His Excellency,
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike CON.
The Governor of Rivers State.
